Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal on the Other Side of the
Thirst for Silence
In his thirst for silence
he shot his television set,
tossed his radio, still
plugged in, into a water
filled bathtub. He fried
a spider that had made
its home there for days.
He taped up his ears with
Scotch Tape, after filling
them with cotton balls.
He tried to exterminate
all the crickets in his yard
and under the sofa. But
nothing he did worked.
He ended up in a crowded
psychiatric ward, with
other screaming peers,
who fought for his attention
with the voices in his head.
In his thirst for silence
he prayed for a quick death.
