Lisa La Tourette-Pershan on the Other Side of the

ragged edge logo

"for better for worse"

sitting cooped in a room
on dark death days
the sun bearing down
& oppressive;
sharing thoughts of suicide
on a moody monday afternoon
or a n.y. cup of coffee
under fall air, crackling
blue & gold.

you behind your piano
bringing Mingus & Monk
back from the dead
& I listen to your
singing feather notes
come alive under the
dangerous soul of your fingers
while writing words
in this notebook.

getting arrested
getting mugged

eating steamers with
butter dripping like good sun,
& washing them down
with icy cold Miller
in the humid salty air
of last summer.

chain smoking in bed
listening to the radio's
raspy-voiced comfort words
lull us to sleep,
pressed together
in the mist of a wispy
midnight moon,
our hushed bodies
exchanging love heat.

all of this,
& your smile still
reaches down to the
base of my spine,
your silent music fingers
bringing me life.
