James Quinton on the Other Side of the

ragged edge logo

the day I set fire to the heath

fire
on the heath
I ran from the blaze
it was a hot summer's day
I'd bunked off school

the fire spread quickly
through the dried bushes and fern

the buzz was exhilarating
as I watched the flame take hold
all this and only one match!

then I ran
I ran and ran
I wasn't going to get caught
I ran through undergrowth
and through trees
I ran and I ran

in the distance
I could hear the sound of the fire engines
and when I was far enough away
I stopped running
lit a cigarette and
walked calmly along
as if nothing had happened
