John Bryan on the Other Side of the

ragged edge logo

Anzac Parade

War Memorial steps,
Stately lighted Holden
Pilgrims bow their chassis
Respectfully to roar, iron cast diggers,
Moulded ready to die, twelve
Feet high. Burley Lake,
Parliament Houses Old & New,
The National estates.
Canberra's frontal lobe;
Legislation on the 5.00 PM shuttles home--
Now pathos. War Memorial steps I sit
My favourite part of the capital's anatomy,
And inside the Unknown Soldier's Tomb:
I bet he never woke up that day over the trenches
Expecting his next & final nightly bed be this !
