Karl Koweski on the Other Side of the

ragged edge logo

a lifetime of moments

I never realized

Eric had a drinking problem

until he killed himself

he always seemed so happy

at the tavern

content to wile away the hours

drinking draft beer and

playing nine ball

eventually returning to his apt

for a few hours sleep

before clocking in

at the factory

whenever he mentioned

his ex wife and his ex kids

it was never with

any bitterness or malcontent

there were things

he might have done differently

if given the chance

no different than any of us

never given the chance

yeah, when I heard he

swallowed the bullet

I bought a pitcher of Coors

set down in front of his stool

furthest away

from the slot machines

Kristy turned down the jukebox

clicked off the television

a moment of silence

as each one of us prayed

please god

don’t let me be

the next to fall apart
